Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do I know if my child needs help?Parents often struggle to know what is "normal" behaviour and if/when they need additional support. If any characteristic, or combination of characteristics, is impacting your child's day-to-day functioning in one or more areas of their life, you may want to consider reaching out. We use a variety of approaches and theoretical models in order to tailor the treatment to your child’s specific needs.
-
What can I expect at my initial appointment? Before your first appointment, you will complete Intake Forms with the concerns you have for your child. Parents often attend the Initial Consultation Session without their child, depending on their concerns and the conversation that will be taking place. However, if you feel it is best to have your child attend with you, you are more than welcome to come together. The Initial Consultation provides you with the opportunity to discuss the information on the intake forms, review some initial strategies and create a treatment plan moving forward.
-
How long are therapy sessions and how many sessions are required?Initial Consultations are 50 minute sessions. Follow up sessions are either 30 or 50 minutes. The number of therapy sessions needed is dependent upon presenting concerns. A clear plan for treatment is developed with your psychologist based on the needs of your child and family.
-
What is the cost of a session? Our rates are aligned with the Psychologists' Association of Alberta recommended fee schedule. Initial Consultations and 50 minute therapy sessions are $225 and 30 minute therapy sessions are $135. Please contact us for our current assessment fees.
-
Do you offer direct billing?Yes we do. Please click HERE to see a list of insurance providers that we can bill directly.
-
Do I need a credit or debit card to book an appointment? To book an appointment, we require a credit card or Mastercard or Visa debit card to be kept on file. If you do not have one or prefer not to keep one on file, we will require a $225 deposit to be kept on file, paid by e-transfer or cash (exact amount only) in order to book an appointment. This deposit will remain as a credit on your account until services are no longer needed.

What is a Registered Provisional Psychologist?A Registered Provisional Psychologist is a mental health professional who has completed their master’s degree in psychology and is in the process of fulfilling the supervised practice requirements set by the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP). This stage allows them to gain practical experience under the supervision of a fully registered psychologist before becoming fully licensed themselves. Provisional psychologists are qualified to provide a wide range of psychological services, including assessments and therapy, while working closely with their supervisor to ensure high standards of care. They are committed to the same ethical and professional guidelines as fully registered psychologists and often bring a fresh, current perspective from their academic training.
